St. Anthony Falls & the Mississippi

Saint Anthony Falls and the Mississippi River are prime examples of landscapes that have helped shape the economic history of Minneapolis by fueling the lumber and flour milling industries through the late 19th and early 20th century. The riverfront and its functional purposes helped define the city during the milling boom of the 1800s and propel Minneapolis’s economy in the city’s early stages of urban and economic development. Both examples of landscapes as history, nature, place, and system.
